If I attempt to add an Embedded Source in either the PlanAhead or ISE tools, in a design targeting one of the supported Zynq devices in the WebPACK version of the ISE tools (device limited to Zynq-7000 EPP Z7010, Z7020, Z7030), the following XPS error occurs after choosing to add the source:
A Xilinx Application has encountered an unexpected error. It is recommended that you save any unsaved work in the event that this condition persists. For further assistance, please consult the Answers Database and other online resources at http://support.xilinx.com.
How do I overcome or work around this error?
Since the device update download from 14.1 (Xilinx Answer 50126), it has been possible to target the WebPACK supported Zynq devices in the WebPACK installation of the ISE tools. However, when you try to target one of these devices and an Embedded Source in the ISE or PlanAhead tools, the message above will be generated by XPS.
If you receive this error when trying to add an Embedded Source in a design targeting a Zynq Device in either the PlanAhead or ISE in the WebPACK version of the tools, install the Logic Edition of the tools.
The WebPACK design tools license will continue to work for the WebPACK devices in the Logic Edition software.
In the Logic Edition, you will be able to add an Embedded Source in a design targeting a supported Zynq WebPACK device without receiving this error. However, you will receive a license error about the XPS feature not being found. This is because the tools are looking for the full license and not the WebPACK license.
